They are the cream of the crop as far as blood line and their wool is sought after as well. These 2 here are beautiful animals. I am doing some research on how to wash and card their wool. Anyone who knows about Llama's know that they do no secrete the lanolin oils like that of a sheep. So when you do Llama wool to spin you either have to have the oil on hand to help spin it or you have to mix sheep wool with it. So I may get 2 sheep as well. I have been studying online in how to wash and card wool and I think I will give it a try. A dear friend of mine in Washington said she would spin it for a few skeins of yarn. And since I am not using it to sell but to give as gifts then what a wonderful offer! We use these Llamas to guard our goats (just pet goats). So the wool was just a bonus!!

So now I need to buy the carding tools and the soap to use is Dawn dish soap so that isn't to bad!!

I haven't gotten to my socks (last post) I have been busy putting up fencing and a million other things I haven't even began that project yet!!

New Yarn

Mom and I decided to go see Nooks and Crannies New yarn shop in Corvallis Oregon. It is a yarn shop HEAVEN!!!

Mom ordered me the book in the mail called Knitting circles around socks (order yours HERE)

Then today we went to the yarn shop website HERE.

Anyway the pictures did not take for how breath taking the yarn actually is in person. Here is my feeble attempts. (ABOVE)

Now I am going to attempt sock making with 2 circular needles TOGETHER!!! Interesting, but excited to learn.
The darker one if you click on it you can see its dark chocolate richness and the purple is stunning in person. The light picture makes everything almost pastel but it really is not.
Wish me luck!!!

Oh and I am working on tearing a part of the stocking I was working on to redue the picture I was knitting into it.. Because I got the concept pretty much I am creating my own. Each will be customized for each kid. I searched on the internet for different charts and I am adding each of them their name at top, and around 2 pics on each stocking. Gabes will have a deer seen and probably a deer head or a Rudolph the red nose reindeer head. We will see. I will be posting pics of the finished stocking.

If it ever gets done that is, I was moving my chair and somehow the yarn got caught underneath my chair and I was dragging it around and didn't know it was underneath. Bought got sick when I finally noticed it. Haven't had the nerve to see the damage yet and I have to much to do around the house to knit so will be looking at it possibly tomorrow. Wish me luck!!!

Finished Stocking

I finished this a couple days ago and finally have the time to post the finished results! Its funny because I design patterns myself but for some silly reason have always had a fear of knitting stockings, that they may turn out funny or I work and work and it does not turn out. Well I decided to give it a try. I am working on a secret exchange gift for a volunteer on HAIN. This is what I am making. So far so good and no double pointed needles, which is a bonus!
My youngest sister's grandmother (like my own) tradition is to make stockings for her kids, their kids and so forth. Now she is to old to make them and I decided to keep her tradition alive. She taught me the CO, Knit, Purl and Bind off stitches, the rest I learned on my own. I know I have made her proud and she gave me her pattern. It is an older pattern and details are not the best, so I decided to do a look around and find some patterns online (thanks to the internet) I was able to find many free patterns. I am excited and hope to inspire you to keep a tradition alive in your family. Our kids are getting further and further away from many traditions and have learned to be a throw away society. Why not give them something they can pass down? A quilt, a handcrafted stocking, an afghan or whatever else your family does as a tradition.

Happy Holidays & Merry CHRISTmas !

P.S. I used thinner Yarn for the white so it looks tighter..hummm

Baby Shower Gifts

I was invited to a cousin of mines baby shower. She is having a little girl obviously by what I created huh?
Anyway this pattern can be seen on http://haincraftforum.org look under patterns. Its the Spring Mint Gown. I modified it to not be a burial gown. I took the K Garter edging off (k3 beg of row and k3 end of row.) and I CO 93 stitches instead of 74 and I sewn up the skirt. Other then that it is all the same. I obviously had to dec more on the dec row to go with the bodice pattern I had and I did CO 5 extra stitches for the arms too (each arm). The booties came off the site http://www.saartjeknits.nl
And the hat will be a pattern I put in the next HAIN newsletter issue!

Things we make and forget the pattern

This gown above was made for my sister's baby Haily. I am knitting him a neat romper using Windy's Peter Pan yarns . You can click on link to buy it for 2.50 a skein. It is much more expensive buying this same yarn at a yarn shop. You cannot buy it in regular stores such as walmart, joanne fabrics etc..
Thing is there is a minumum order of 40.00. But most of us know we spend that easily at wal-mart anyway! And the quailty of this yarn for your baby items is amazing. I made 1 hat for a gas pump attendant at safeway. (In Oregon we do not pump our own gas by law) anyway he is the nicest little ol grandpa that stands out in the weather in the mornings pumping gas. Well I mentioned something about the cold and he was talking about needing hats and such so I told him I knit and would make him a hat. To his surprize the other day I delivered the hat, my kids were with me and were so excited to see the response. He was so happy and put that hat on like he just had christmas. What a blessing to my heart. He just hugged me and was so excited!!! They were excited too!
Now I am working on my hubby's hat. He is excited to get it too. I am almost finished!

The patterns I came up with from the top of my head!

With 3 or 4 ply yarn (I used simply soft for my hubbys and for the gentlemen I use Lionbrand it was a soft type "can't remember the exact name now)anywayCO 98 StitchesKnit 2, Purl 2 (double ribs) across. Do this for 2-4 inches (depending if you want it to fold or not)then after those inches are done Knit 1, Purl 1 (single ribs) across for 4-6 inches depending if you want the hat snug to the head or larger. Then decrease by knit 2 tog work: single rib pattern between decrease stitches [11 stitches], then knit 2 tog across.Next you Knit 2 tog, work in single rib pattern 10 stitches, knit 2 tog across.Next Knit 2 stitches, work in single rib pattern 9 stitches, knit 2 tog across. Please repeat this, until you have went to 4-2 stitches between decreases ( or do this until you have 15-20 stiches on needle) then cut yarn (leaving a tail) then put the tail on yarn needles, weave through remaining stitches on left hand needle, pulling stitches off needle and pull up tight. sew up side of hat!Its seriously simple!
You can make it all double rib, or single rib if you wish. :)
I will post a picture soon!

Sadly no pictures

Well I do not do things much unless its for charity so I never have much to post on this blog. I have been knitting dishrags however. They usually are generic since they go to work ASAP as soon as they are made! My daughter Julionna she knitted her first dishrag! I am so proud of her and of course my camara does not have charged batteries so no picture taking! I need to go buy a charger lol
Anyway I have been knitting but very little!

I almost passed out when I walked into the motorhome and found my 20 a skein yarn on the floor for my socks I am going to make in the near future. My 2 yougest sons were building a fort and knocked over my plastic storage box I have with yarn in it! EEEEKKKK But all was saved.. Once I got over that confusion its was pretty easy. Easy enough I think I could design my own patterns in the future.
